The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that the final of the second season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be held in Lahore; the board is currently working up contingency plans and making sure that player security is top priority for the plans. The rest of the tournament will be played in Dubai and Sharjah starting from February 9th.
The PCB has decided to set up another draft in February to replace players who are not willing to travel to Pakistan with overseas players who are. Najam Sethi said that “Once the teams for the finals are decided and their icon or foreign players refuse to travel to Lahore, we will make a new draft with a pool from the existing 30-35 players of PSL,”. He also mentioned that if no foreign players agree to travel to Pakistan then they will be replaced by local players.
The PCB has the assurance of the Punjab Government and is confident to give the plan a green light. Arrangements for a fly-in, fly-out, for the teams, system is in the bid as well as four bullet proof busses.
However, FICA, the International Players Association, has written a report in which it concludes that players should not travel to Pakistan because of security issues. This report came out a day after Najam Sethi’s comments. However, an updated independent assessment is being carried out which will be a major factor in players’ decision making.
Besides the PSL, the PCB has asked the West Indies to come and play in Pakistan before going Lauderhill in Florida to play 2 T20’s.
