On Saturday, Islamabad United beat the Karachi Kings by 9 wickets. Here is the ball-by-ball analysis and scorecard of the match.
A change of captaincy was not enough to guide the Kings to the final at Dubai as Mohammed Sami’s 5 for 8 destroyed the their innings and ended up in the line of fire by the United.
The top order wobble was too costly for the Kings as they fell into the hole of a below par score of 111. Only 3 batsman of the Kings scored themselves into double figure summed up the fact that captaincy was not in good hands even with Ravi Bopara. He once again came to the rescue for the Kings when he blasted a 37 until Sami ripped through the batting order to end with figure of 5 for 8 in 4 overs.
United lost Sharjeel Khan early but the foreign professional identities of Brad Haddin and Dwayne Smith made light of the target and won with 34 balls to spare. Along the way, they also sounded out a note of caution for Peshawar Zalmi, their next opponent, ahead of the grand finale.
Sohail Khan gave the Kings a breakthrough in the 4th over who was Sharjeel Khan but Smith drove the chase forward with the help of Haddin who hit a unbeaten 52 of just 29 balls courtesy of 4 fours and 3 sixes. Smith finished on 50 not out as Islamabad, who began the tournament slowly, appeared to have revved up their engine when it matters the most.
