The Pakistan Super League is all set to start on February 4th 2016. On the 21st and the 22nd of December 2015 the inaugural PSL draft was taken place in the National Academy of Pakistan in Lahore to maintain balance among all five squads of the tournament.
In each blog, I will analyse every team of the Pakistan Super league a.k.a PSL. So lets start the discussion about the Peshawar Zalmi.
Peshawar Zalmi was bought by Haier Pakistan $1.6 Million. With the most searched up team in the HBL PSL, they have the biggest fan-base of all the 5 franchises in the tournament. The Zalmis are captained by the one and only ‘Boom Boom’ – Shahid Afridi.
Hafeez and Tamim Iqbal will lead the Zalmis batting attack in the competition. heir form and performance will determine the course of Zalmis innings, as both players have potential to play long innings. Shahis Yousaf and Dawid Malan are the key players in middle order both have vast experience of domestic leagues and are famous for their clinical performances.
If one of them holds an end, then the late middle order could easily steal away the show with quick 60-70 runs in last 4-5 overs. Musaddiq and IsrarUllah are other two young guns from whom Peshawar fans have high hopes. We might see Brad Hodge in action too for Zalmis, and he too is an explosive finisher, so in a nutshell Peshawar Zalmis have a good batting lineup but it would be interesting to see how they manage to climb back if their openers fall early.
Imagine Wahab, Tait, Jordan and Junaid Khan bowling from different ends one after the other, opposition would obviously seek shelter from them. Peshawar has this amazing bowling lineup which is a perfect blend of variety loaded with talent and lubricated with experience.
Wahab and Tait will surely get wickets with there pace but will definitely go for a couple of boundaries. Their back-up will be Junaid and Jordan who are precise and quick and can bowl good yorkers which will be crucial to contain their opposition. Sammy can also bowl some very economical overs right at the end of the innings.
In the spin department, Zalmi have Arifi and Abdur Rehman who will really spin the bowl on a pitch like Dubai and will play a decisive role as the league goes on.
Zalmi have unarguably the best all-rounders in the tournament with Afridi, Sammy, Aamer Yamin and Jim Allenby. These players are game changers and hard hitters. These bowlers can also bowl 3-4 very economical overs.
The all-rounder we must not talk about is Shahid Afridi. On his day, Afridi can leave the other teams in pieces. There is a chance that Afridi might shine in the PSL. Just like the the old days, hitting boundaries over mid-wicket and extra-cover. He is a very energetic player and that energy will keep his troops on their toes through each bowl of the game. Despite, all these advantages I would not place my bets on him as he has not been performing in recent days.
Players to Watch Out For
Kamran Akmal is one player who I feel will surely make headlines with his performance in PSL-T20 and if he succeeds in performing, he could win a ticket to India for World T20 Cup. Another player that I believe will perform is Sammy as he is cool under pressure and can score runs and get wickets in the death overs despite his debatable batting technique.
Shahid Yousaf is one guy who has constantly been scoring runs in the domestic circuit, thus I’ll place my bets on him in the Fantasy League.
